EastEnders Episode Review - Tuesday 2nd June 2015

Yes, yes and yes again!!! When she's at her best, Sharon is untouchable. Just like this show.

Sharon goes to see Gordon, thinking he is her father. As soon as Gordon struggles to answer questions though, I think the penny drops for Sharon. She realises that she's been set up. She gets back home and brings Gordon with her, shocking Phil. Phil tries to grab a word with his stooge but Sharon gets there just in time, and tells Gordon to ignore Phil, and promises that she'll double whatever he's paying him. Gordon says that he doesn't want to be playing games, but I get the feeling this particular game already has a winner. Sharon is on fire. I hope she takes Phil to the cleaners for this.

Sharon's right about one thing. In his head, Phil taking her to see her 'Dad' would mean that she'd forget about Vincent. Oh no, not our Shazza. She's cleverer than you think, Phil. And so she went round to speak to Vincent. Shirley and Kim both provided some comedic moments, before Sharon took on her new nemesis. Sharon and Vincent could actually work well together. We learnt today that Vincent's knew Den. Perhaps we'll be getting a visit from Vincent's Dad some time soon. I was quite disappointed though with Vincent's attitude towards his wife in this episode though. It was quite misogynistic for him to immediately hand Pearl over to Kim to deal with. As much as I dislike Kim, that wasn't nice.

Ronnie, please shut the fuck up. How dare she tell Phil that he can't control his wife? Who exactly does she think she is? Sharon telling her that she's 'lucky I don't kick that stick from under you' was a real highlight, and managed to win Sharon line of the night. I wish she did. And so they convene a family meeting, to save Ronnie's back, again. I couldn't help but laugh when Roxy said that Charlie was looking after Denny and Amy. Denny really is never seen, is he? I know it was a huge mistake making Sharon a mum, but is it necessary for Denny to disappear months on end like this?

Oh Abi, I love you. Has there ever been a bigger turnaround in character than Abi Branning? In a period of four months she's gone from one of the dullest pieces of deadwood to being a joy to watch. She's sinister, intelligent, gorgeous and absolutely watchable. Her boss tells Ben that 'The way she deals with a dead pet is fantastic.' Yeah, just ask Tramp! I loved Abi giving Paul the death stare. Brilliant. And also she was bang on the money when she asked Ben why they had to leave just because Phil had text him. Great to see someone challenging Phil's status as top dog.

Over to the Beale's. Bobby says that he doesn't like it when the family argue. Don't we bloody know it! The only reason Ian and Jane are so desperate to adopt Beth is so that Ian can correct the mistakes he made with Peter and Lucy. It's sick. Bobby is controlling that family. The sight of him playing violent video games with Ian was quite unnerving, actually. Ian and Jane are becoming horrible, horrible people. But Adam Woodyatt and Laurie Brett are playing it brilliantly. Cindy has got the measure of them too, and she assessed both of then perfectly, saying that Ian will flip out and Jane will be nicey-nice. Once again, Mimi Keene was fantastic.

Tonight, we learnt that Paul has got diabetes. I think this is a good little piece of character for him. As long as it doesn't become a huge defining part of his character, that's fine by me. I'm impressed with Paul so far. I do wonder if Jonny Labey is putting on an accent - a few times I've heard him sound slightly Northern in his delivery. In this episode, Roger Sloman totally embarrassed himself. He could be the worst actor we've ever had on this show, and that's some fucking achievement. Paul tells him that he knows about Les's affair with 'Mrs Hubbard'. Why is he calling her that, was she once his teacher or something? And what then ensues is a piece of acting so bad it beggars belief. There's a lot of mentions of the Cokers celebrating their centenary year this summer. Maybe Les might pop his clogs at the event. Here's hoping.

Last week is already a distant memory. Look how good the show is with Sharon at the centre.
